Lychnis X Arkwrightii Vesuvius
In stock
Description
Lychnis x arkwrightii 'Vesuvius', commonly known as Vesuvius Campion, is a stunning perennial that delivers a bold splash of color to summer gardens. Its fiery orange-scarlet flowers are carried on upright stems above a compact mound of dark bronze-purple foliage, creating a striking contrast. Blooming from mid-summer to early autumn, this vibrant plant is perfect for adding drama to borders, cottage gardens, or mixed perennial beds. Thriving in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soils, Vesuvius is drought-tolerant once established and requires minimal maintenance. Its showy blooms attract pollinators like bees and butterflies, while its compact habit ensures it fits beautifully into smaller gardens or containers. With its long flowering season and vivid colors, it makes a standout feature in any planting scheme.
Sowing Advice
Best sown in early spring or autumn. Use a well-draining seed-starting mix and lightly cover seeds with soil, as they require some light to germinate. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged and maintain a temperature of 18–22°C (65–72°F). Germination typically occurs within 14–21 days. Once seedlings are robust, transplant them into individual pots and grow them on until conditions are suitable for outdoor planting. Space plants 25–35 cm apart in a sunny, well-drained location.
