Aeonium Arboreum
In stock
Description
Aeonium arboreum, commonly known as Tree Aeonium or Tree Houseleek, is a striking evergreen succulent that forms branching rosettes of fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves. The foliage, which varies in color from bright green to deep burgundy in some varieties, grows on sturdy, woody stems, giving the plant its tree-like appearance. In late winter to early spring, mature plants produce tall, conical clusters of small yellow star-shaped flowers, adding seasonal interest. This low-maintenance succulent thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained, sandy soils, making it ideal for rock gardens, xeriscaping, or containers. Its drought-tolerant nature ensures minimal watering needs, while its bold, architectural form provides year-round structure and texture to gardens. Aeonium arboreum can be grown indoors as a houseplant in cooler climates, provided it receives plenty of light.
Sowing Advice
For seeds, sow in spring or early summer using a well-draining cactus or succulent mix. Press the seeds lightly onto the surface without covering, as they require light to germinate. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged and maintain a temperature of 18–22°C (65–72°F). Germination typically occurs within 2–3 weeks. For cuttings, take a healthy stem and let it dry for 1–2 days to form a callus before planting it in well-draining soil. Water sparingly until roots develop.
