Genista Sagittalis
In stock
Description
Genista sagittalis, commonly known as Arrow-Jointed Broom or Winged Broom, is a low-growing, deciduous shrub native to central and southern Europe, extending into Ukraine and Anatolia. This charming plant forms a dense mat of prostrate stems that give rise to upright, winged branches, creating a unique architectural presence in the garden. The small, sparse leaves are complemented by clusters of bright yellow flowers that bloom from late spring into early summer, adding a splash of color to rock gardens and alpine settings. Its compact size and tolerance for poor soils make it an excellent choice for ground cover or edging in sunny locations.
Sowing Advice
Scarify the seeds by nicking or filing through the seed coat, then soak them in water for 24 hours or until they have expanded significantly. Sow the seeds approximately 6 millimeters (0.25 inches) deep in well-draining soil, ensuring consistent moisture. No stratification is required. Germination typically occurs within a few weeks under suitable conditions. Once seedlings are robust enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots or directly into the garden, spacing them to accommodate their mature spread.
