PELTIPHYLLUM PELTATUM (DARMERA PELTATA)
In stock
Description
The fabulous "Umbrella Plant", a giant saxifrage relative, is an absolutely superb specimen that starts off with truly gorgeous sprays of flowers in shades of pink, on thick stems in earliest spring. Only later does it push up neat umbrella-like leaves, rather like a gunnera but not as large or sprawling. This stunning waterside plant is especially wonderful in the waters edge, or where it can be allowed to grow large, although it can do perfectly well in a dryish garden!.
Sowing Advice
For best results, sow immediately onto a good soil-based compost. Cover the seeds with fine grit or compost to approximately their own depth. They can be sown at any time, and germination can sometimes be quicker if kept at 15 to 20 degrees C. We sow most seeds in an unheated greenhouse and wait for natural germination, as many seeds have built-in dormancy mechanisms, often waiting for natural spring germination, hence giving them a full season of growth.
