This famous and delicious Scottish 19th century heirloom variety of winter leek has large, very thick stems which have a fantastic sweet yet mild flavour. This variety is winter hardy and is slow to bolt.

Sowing Advice

For general purpose sow March-April outdoors in prepared seedbed for use from October to April. Sow the leek seed thinly about 1 inch apart in drills about a quarter of an inch deep and cover the seeds with fine sifted soil. Water if needed. Drills should be about 6 inches apart in the permanent bed. Thin as soon as possible to about 2 inches and then thin again to about 4 inches apart. Can be sown earlier under glass.
