Alyssoides Utriculata

Alyssoides utriculata is a compact, woody-based perennial from the mountains of southern Europe, forming a rounded mound of softly hairy grey-green leaves. In late spring and early summer it carries clusters of fragrant yellow flowers, followed by distinctive inflated seed pods that resemble tiny papery bladders. These sculptural fruits remain attractive after the flowers fade and can be used in dried arrangements. Naturally adapted to rocky slopes and limestone ground, the plant is drought tolerant once established and makes an excellent subject for a sunny rock garden, wall or raised bed with very sharp drainage.
