Description
The "Giant Yunnan Lily" or "Giant Himalayan Lily" is a stately giant, producing two inch thick stems, with dinner plate sized leaves above which open numerous eight inch green and white waxy, very fragrant trumpets, followed by enormous "everlasting", toothed seed-pods when dried. A fantastic plant in all respects which blooms in late spring to early summer. Adaptable to partial shade or full sun, this plant thrives in well-drained, fertile soil. It's hardy in zones 6-9 and requires moderate watering. If you're seeking to cultivate your own outdoor haven, these seeds provide an opportunity to grow this giant Lily in your own garden!
Sowing Advice
Sow seeds at any time, covering them very thinly with compost or grit, keeping the seed pot in a cool, well-lit spot outdoors. Artificial heat is not needed and can prevent germination so be very patient as many species will only germinate in the spring after chilling or freezing in the moist seed pot in the winter. Grow on individual seedlings in small pots until of sufficient size to be potted on or planted out into the open ground. These seeds often wait until the second year to germinate so PLEASE keep the seed tray!
