Erodium Castellanum
In stock
Description
Very rarely offered, this gorgeous dwarf erodium, one of the most beautiful of this sizeable family, opens its exceptionally attractive large flowers in a strong cerise colour, all carried in good-sized heads held well clear of the foliage. It has a superficial resemblance to Erodium manescavii but is barely half the size. Unlike many other varieties it perpetually produces new stems for most of the summer, the compact, parsley-like, deeply cut leaves adding value to its flattened clumps. It also makes a perfect large specimen over a long season when planted on its own in a suitable container. Very few large fertile seeds are ever collected.
Sowing Advice
Seeds can be sown at any time but are best sown in winter or early spring to benefit from a cold spell in the wet compost to break their dormancy. We advise covering seeds very thinly with sand or fine grit to about the depth of the seed size. If the seeds do not come up within 6 to 12 weeks the damp seed tray can be given cold treatment in a fridge for about four weeks. They may still take very many months to appear, so please never discard the pot or tray.
