Paeonia Tenuifolia
In stock
Description
This unusual peony is native to eastern Europe from Serbia across the Ukraine to the Caucasus mountains, but was first noted in cultivation in England in the mid 18th century. This plant has finely divided fern-like leaves which explain it's common name. The deep cup shaped scented flowers vary from deep red to almost pink colour with a yellow centre of tightly bunched stamen.
Sowing Advice
Unlike other peonies this variety should be surface sown. Keep moist in a cold spot outside as peonies are very slow to germinate, sometimes taking up to two years to appear. Do not use artificial heat as this may simply kill them. As a rule they just make an underground root the first year, shoots appearing above ground in year two. Grow on seedlings in 3” pots and finally plant out in good garden soil. Never discard the seed tray until the seedlings appear.
