Silene Compacta
In stock
Description
An extremely quick-growing plant that flowers the same year it is sown, producing rosettes of shiny leaves from which sprout long stems, bearing massed (compact!) heads of pink flowers in late spring and summer. These plants also self seed gently and do especially well on poor sandy soil.
Sowing Advice
Sow immediately at any time onto preferably a soil-based compost, covering with fine grit to approximately their own depth. Germination MAY be quicker if kept at 15 to 20 degrees C. but many seeds WILL NOT come up the year they are sown, needing winter chilling after sowing, and ONLY come up with natural spring germination. These plants also do well from being sprinkled finely where they are to flower, and then very gently being rubbed in to the soil.
